About Us
First Church of Christ, Scientist, New Brighton, began as Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Minneapolis in 1908 serving the University of Minnesota and surrounding areas until 1969. The church purchased land in New Brighton in 1970 and hired architect, John Howe, to design the new church, Howe, Frank Lloyd Wright’s chief draftsman for thirty-five years had not designed a church before. His design has seven corners to symbolize the seven synonyms for God, as identified in Mary Baker Eddy’s textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
Church services were held above a grocery store on Central and East Hennepin during the interim years, until the new church was finished in 1972.
All are warmly welcomed to these services.
